Local Area Agreements and Comprehensive Area Assessment
Each London authority, working with its Local Strategic Partnership, is responsible for preparing a sustainable community strategy for their area.
Local Area Agreements (LAAs) are the action plans, agreed between councils, local partners, and central government, which put these long terms strategies into effect. LAAs are prepared for a three year time period, and reviewed and rolled forward each year, with authorities responsible for making sure that they happen.
Capital Ambition has been working with Fran Beasley (Westminster City Council) and Henry Peterson (Local Government Association) to support London local authorities to best prepare for the new LAAs and Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA). This has involved the development of a ‘place-shaper tool-kit’ to provide further support to authorities. The material in the tool-kit includes:
- a London wide analysis of the ‘state of the boroughs’, comparing economic, social and environmental trends in the capital with the wider picture across England
- a profile for each borough, covering the same sets of data.
- a set of slides on LAA preparation, designed for use at Borough level in discussions with local partners and others involved.
